The Quality Mark for Reliable Checkout Systems is an independent and transparent quality mark for checkout systems. In the Netherlands, a conscious choice was made for self-regulation in the sector. The quality mark stands for reliability, safety and continuity, but also for fair competition and thus a level playing field for entrepreneurs. Since 2012, suppliers of checkout systems have been working together in the Reliable Checkout Systems Foundation to provide better and more reliable checkout systems. Various parties, including the Tax and Customs Administration, have joined forces to make this a reality. The quality mark is thus a public-private initiative by the Tax and Customs Administration and the sector. A till that meets the standards of the Foundation is awarded the Quality Mark Reliable Checkout System. The quality mark stands for reliability, safety and continuity, but also for fair competition and in extension a level playing field for entrepreneurs. A cash register with a Hallmark records all transactions in a reliable manner, offers protection against unauthorised use of data and complies with the 7-year retention obligation.
